Manifesto | 40 years of Mifar

Some guiding principles have enabled our company to develop and establish itself on the market, and over time we have founded our entire business on them. They are summarised in five valuable assets and in ten points that today represent the Mifar Manifesto.

HISTORY

Our history

40 years of history, of constant commitment to acquiring competence and experience in order to offer a range of high quality, user-friendly, ready-to-use, high performance mono-pigmented solid dispersions.

Founded in 1980, Mifar Srl is a chemical company specialising in the production, research and development of solid pigmented preparations (“chips”) for manufacturers of inks, varnishes and coatings, as well as manufacturers of biodegradable packaging and cosmetic products.

Since 1999, MIFAR has been part of the Tennant Group, a multinational manufacturer and supplier of chemical products.

The offices of Mifar Srl are located in the heart of Milan, while the production facility extends over an industrial area of 10,000 square metres in Rescaldina, in the north-west of the province of Milan, and is the most recent “chips” facility in Europe.

With a production capacity of solid mono-pigmented dispersions that has more than doubled in the last six years, in 2014 Mifar equipped itself with a 50-tonne nitrocellulose deposit bunker.  The facility operates under safe HSE conditions, with BAT installations and authorisations, including NC storage, sprinklers and water reserve, VOC combustor.

LEADERSHIP

Evolution

Always looking to the future, our company has adopted continuous investments in research and development to innovate its own production, and also to support every stage of the development of its partner’s production processes.

Innovation is the driving force that has always enabled Mifar to guarantee high quality products in terms of reliability and performance.  Every year Mifar invests an average of 5% of its turnover in Research & Development with the use of highly qualified staff to promptly respond to the needs of its partners and the market, with products that increasingly reflect modern lifestyles, with priority given to respecting the environment and developing sustainable solutions.

Intelligence

Creativity and chemistry, colour and technology, tradition and efficiency: Mifar’s activity is carried out by qualified people who oversee the daily production with the help of innovative digital technologies for the integrated management of all the company processes.

Mifar’s evolution also involved the digital transformation of all the company processes, from customer care to financial operations, and from sales to the improvement of the production activities.  In the era of digital innovation of the chemical sector, Mifar continues to manage its traditional processes in complete synergy with the new technologies, offering great flexibility and efficiency.

Work challenges

We are motivated by challenging ourselves: our laboratory always focuses on new products that have been custom designed following application tests.

The Mifar laboratory has certainly become one of the strengths of our company. The Research & Development activity has evolved over time, becoming more and more significant and advanced, with an increasingly high demand for technical preparation. Over the years, our laboratory has carried out an average of 10 thousand QC and R&D product tests to support our partners. About ten quality control tests are carried out on each QC product, and an average of about ten tests are carried out on each new raw material of a R&D product.

Winning together

We believe that by following our partners every step of the way is the right way. We follow a customer- oriented work approach with producers of paints, inks, enamels and dyes aimed at identifying the opportunities and the future developments of the market.

We are market leaders. Mifar Srl is Europe’s largest and the world’s third largest manufacturer and seller of chips. The growth performance in the last ten years has driven us to completely revise our organisational structure, organising ourselves to follow customers throughout every stage of the development of their production processes. Our new claim “colour made easy” is a reflection of this evolution.  Making life easy for our partners represents a productive and commercial advantage for their success.

SUSTAINABILITY

Sense of sustainability

We believe in a business culture founded on health and safety in the workplace. We also believe that entrepreneurial efficiency must go hand in hand with the respect for and protection of the natural environment to which Mifar and its employees belong.

Mifar’s paradigm is to create value not only through profit but also through the reduction of the environmental impact, listening to customers and respecting employees.

In recent years, our commitment has focused on the study of cutting-edge technologies dedicated to macromolecules for the creation of compostable materials. We strongly believe that this is the only possible direction for the chemical sector in order to fundamentally contribute to maintaining the ecological balance of the planet.

Mifar’s sustainable approach can only start with a careful selection of the raw materials. Our production system of pigment dispersion “chips” is based on the concept of “right the first time” as the raw material is not reusable. Qualitative selection is therefore the first step in a circular economy process aimed at reducing waste.

We apply the sense of sustainability to the issue of occupational health and safety, through the involvement of all staff, regardless of their duties. We are all called upon to improve the health and safety levels by identifying potential sources of danger and developing preventive and protective measures.

SAFETY

Certified safety

Safety is paramount. Our production processes are UNI EN ISO 9001 certified. We possess an organisational, management and control model that complies with Legislative Decree no. 231, developed according to the structure and the activity carried out by Mifar. In regard to occupational health and safety, we regularly update our Safety Policy and Safety Recovery Plan, we work with a Privacy Policy that complies with the European Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Our compostable products are TÜV certified in accordance with the UNI EN 13432 standard.

ENVIRONMENT

Export “Made in Italy”

The strong values that have established the greatness of being “Made in Italy” such as inventiveness and quality, has distinguished Mifar on the international markets with a wide-ranging business expansion. Mifar now sells its products in 52 countries, in addition to Italy.

Mifar has consolidated its presence on the market of solid predispersed pigments with continuous growth in terms of production.  Today it is able to offer a range of 400 different products for industries such as automotive, inks, coatings, packaging, food packaging, leather finishing and cosmetics with unrivalled expertise on colour dedicated to quality, creativity and inventiveness, as internationally recognised characteristics of “Made in Italy” excellence.

Strategic logistics

Mifar’s recent strategic choice was to outsource the warehousing and logistics activities, relying on external experts to ensure application of efficient procedures for further improvement of the services that we deliver to our customers.

Mifar has chosen a trusted partner, an Italian leader in logistics, international groupage and distribution services, capable of guaranteeing maximum safety of its products and total transparency of the business flows, as well as a privileged position not far from Mifar’s production facility in Rescaldina. These elements can make the difference in Mifar’s increasingly wide-ranging business activities, with a distribution in 52 countries, besides Italy, and exports equal to 65% of total sales.

Essence

We believe that colour is a serious business. And we know that the chemical industry offers innovative solutions for the development of modern society. We like to think that over the last 40 years we have been living in both these worlds, and we want to continue to do so.

Colour and chemistry. A combination that represents our product, along all stages of its life cycle.

Our responsibility for product innovation, sourcing, production, distribution and after-sales support is aimed at striking the right balance between economic prosperity, environmental protection and social wellbeing.
